Chrysler Shelby California Development Center

The May 1987 issue of Sports Car Illustrated contained this article on the Chrysler Shelby California Development Center in Whittier, CA. The article is interesting because one of the photos shows a red two-door Shadow, as well as a red four-door Shadow, being worked on in the background. The text of the article makes no mention of the CSX by name, but it notes:

Next to the Lancer, separated from it by a couple of engines lying on the floor, come prototypes of the next car to get the Shelby treatment. These are in an early stage of development, meaning that they are being equipped with the same Shelby pieces that have worked on current models. These bits will evolve to the needs of the particular car as testing progresses. Call them "baseline" cars, "shadows" of their final selves, if you will, that may not reflect the finished product's specification.
